Surprise checks conducted at fertiliser shops in Chigurumamidi

Karimnagar: Agriculture officials conducted surprise inspections at fertiliser shops across Chigurumamidi mandal on Tuesday to ensure the availability of quality fertilisers and seeds to farmers during the ongoing kharif season.

The inspections covered shops at the mandal headquarters and several villages. Officials examined stock registers, sales records, displayed prices and dealers’ licences to verify compliance with regulations.

The Mandal Agriculture Officer warned dealers against selling fertilisers above the prescribed Maximum Retail Price (MRP), cautioning that violations would attract legal action. Dealers were also instructed to issue computer-generated or authorised bills for every transaction. Officials urged farmers to insist on bills when purchasing fertilisers and check the manufacturing date, batch number and expiry date printed on the bags. Farmers were also advised to report any suspected sale of counterfeit or substandard fertilisers to the Agriculture Department.

Officials said inspections would continue across the mandal to prevent malpractice and protect farmers’ interests.
