‘Project Paani’ smart greenhouse open

Khammam: A smart greenhouse established under ‘Project Paani’ by Vivekananda Institute of Human Excellence (VIHE), Khammam, was inaugurated at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Palair, on Sunday with the objective of creating awareness among students about agriculture, water conservation, and modern farming practices.

The initiative seeks to provide students with hands-on exposure to agriculture and enable them to understand modern cultivation methods beyond classroom learning. ‘Project Paani’ was conceived by Daksh Soodhini, a Class XII student of Oakridge School, Hyderabad. His parents encouraged the initiative, with his mother Deepti extending financial support. VIHE subsequently adopted the idea as a pilot project and helped implement it at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Palair.

VIHE founder, BJP state Treasurer Devaki Vasudeva Rao took the initiative to establish the greenhouse as a practical learning platform for students. Under the project, students will be exposed to various aspects of modern agriculture, including cultivation using minimal water, obtaining higher yields from limited space, plant care, modern farming technologies, organic farming and water conservation.

The vegetables and other crops grown in the greenhouse are also proposed to be utilised for the requirements of students at the institution, the organisers said. Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Palair, Principal Venkata Ramana, VIHE Secretary Gannavarapu Chandra Shekhar and committee member Jayanth Patel attended the inauguration and appreciated the initiative. Students actively participated in the programme and showed keen interest in understanding the functioning and benefits of the greenhouse.

VIHE said it would continue to expand activities under Project Paani to promote awareness among students about modern agriculture, organic farming, water conservation, nutrition and self-sufficiency.
