Teenager held for chain snatching in Devanakonda

Kurnool: Cracking down on street crime, Devanakonda police arrested a 19-year-old youth for allegedly targeting elderly women in a series of brazen chain-snatching incidents, successfully recovering stolen gold ornaments across two major cases.

The accused was identified as Golla Jagan from Palle Doddhi village in Devanakonda mandal.

Following his apprehension, he was produced before the Judicial First Class Magistrate (JFCM) court at Pattikonda and remanded to judicial custody.

The investigation began after a complaint was filed regarding a two-tola gold mangalsutra snatched from an elderly woman near a water plant in Ternekal village onFebruary 19.

A similar offense occurred on September 7, when an elderly woman walking home from the Devanakonda bus stand was trailed and robbed of two gold chains weigh ing 26 grams.

Under the supervision of DSP Venkataramaiah, Devanakonda CI V Venugopal launched an intensive probe.On Tuesday morning, acting on intelligence regarding a suspicious individual near the Gadderalla village arch along the Kurnool-Bellary highway, police intercepted, chased, and apprehended Jagan. During interrogation, the accused confessed to committing the crimes for quick money.

Police recovered the stolen gold ornaments in the presence of panchayatdars.

Addressing reporters, DSP Venkataramaiah warned that stringent legal action, including opening rowdy sheets against habitual criminals, will be enforced against anyone targeting women and senior citizens. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities immediately.
