Komatireddy hails teachers’ role
Nalgonda: Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said teachers have the power to transform students’ lives and play a crucial role in shaping their future. The Minister was the chief guest at the 2026 Best Teachers’ Day celebrations organised by the District Education Department in Nalgonda on Tuesday. He felicitated teachers selected for the Best Teacher awards.
Addressing the gathering, Venkat Reddy said their efforts had produced encouraging results in Nalgonda district.
“While student enrolment across the State had declined by 10 per cent compared with previous years, Nalgonda district recorded a 9 per cent increase,” he said, which he described as a reflection of teachers’ performance.
He said that despite government schools providing quality education with competent teachers, many students continued to prefer private schools due to factors such as English-medium instruction and rote-learning practices. He called for an examination of the reasons behind this preference.
The Minister said the State government was giving special priority to education by strengthening government schools and establishing Young India Integrated Residential Schools and Telangana Public Schools.
Venkat Reddy said the government had recruited 12,000 teachers and would appoint more if required. He urged teachers to focus not only on academics but also on students’ health, values and life goals. Expressing concern over failures at the Intermediate level after Class X, he called for special attention to the issue. He also directed District Collector B. Chandrasekhar to identify school dropouts and analyse the reasons for their discontinuation.
Collector said student strength in the district had increased by about 2,000 this year. He said initiatives such as Amma Adarsha Patashala works, online learning, Young India Integrated Residential Schools and Telangana Public Schools were being implemented to improve educational standards.
Mayor Burri Chaitanya Srinivas Reddy said teachers held a respected place in society and played a major role in guiding students and nation-building.
