Nellore: Farmers and YSRCP leaders led by former Minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy staged a protest at Nellore Barrage on Tuesday, demanding the immediate release of Srisailam water to Somasila for local irrigation and drinking needs. Police intercepted a 100-vehicle rally from reaching the barrage, leading to heated arguments and a road blockade by protesters.
Kakani accused the state government of failing to protect AP’s water rights while Telangana draws water from Srisailam. Pointing out low storage at Somasila (17 TMC) and Kandaleru (18 TMC), he demanded immediate supply to the Nellore Delta. Ex-minister Dr Sake Sailajanath attended.
