Raj: FIR against 16 for religious conversion

Jaipur: Sixteen people in Rajasthan’s Banswara have been booked following a complaint alleging that people were being pressured and offered inducements to convert religion, police said on Wednesday.

The complaint was lodged at Sallopat police station by Aditya Dindor, a resident of Makdichor village, they said. The complainant alleged that people were offered Rs 1 lakh and Rs 25,000 every month for converting their religion, besides promises of selection in the civil services, a vehicle and other facilities. He also alleged that attempts to conduct baptism were done.

The complainant also claimed that he was thrashed and assaulted with kicks, punches when he refused to convert. “An FIR has been registered based on the complaint. 16 people have been named in the FIR besides. We are recording statement and questioning the accused. Further action is underway,” Sallopat SHO Jayesh Patidar said.

The complainant further alleged that the accused hurled casteist slurs and insulted Hindu deities. The FIR mentions that a programme was held in Shivpura on September 22 that was attended by around 100-150 people and a church was being run from a residential premises.
