Rajamahendravaram:Kung fu is not merely a form of self-defence but also a comprehensive sporting discipline that helps students develop discipline, concentration, self-confidence, physical fitness and mental strength, said Rajamahendri Educational Institutions chairman Dr TK Visweswara Reddy.

He was the chief guest at the second national-level Kung Fu Championship-2026 organised by SM Kung Fu International School of Self Defence at Sri Krishna Sai Kalyana Mandapam here on Monday. He formally inaugurated the national-level Kung Fu and Karate competitions.

Visweswara Reddy said imparting sports and self-defence training to children from a young age would help them face challenges with confidence. He appreciated the participation of around 700 players from different parts of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Odisha, and said the conduct of national-level competitions in Rajamahendravaram was a matter of pride for the city.

He stressed the importance of girls learning martial arts, saying self-defence training would enable them to protect themselves effectively. Kung fu and karate demonstrations, sparring championship, kata and forms competitions held as part of the event drew considerable response from the audience.

The performances by children and young players were well received. Visweswara Reddy presented prizes to the winners of the Kung Fu and Karate competitions.

SM Kung Fu International School of Self Defence founder and tournament chief organiser M Nagaraju, MSKA chief SK Daryavali, chief referees P Rajababu and Thai Prakash, government organiser MMSR Karshith, and masters Venkat, Daryavali Vikram, Kannan Goud, Sattibabu, Pitla Raju and Arun and others participated.
