Tirupati: As part of the nationwide Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign, the Municipal Corporation organised a large-scale shramdaan, a clean-up drive at Vinayaka Sagar here on Thursday under the slogan ‘Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath’.
City MLA Arani Srinivasulu, the chief guest, along with Municipal Corporation Commissioner M Jayakrishna and local leaders, removed plastic waste and other garbage that had accumulated around the water body in Vinayaka Sagar.
Addressing the gathering, MLA Arani said the drive is being held in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call and under State’s Swachh Andhra programme led by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. “Our goal is to make Tirupati a Swachh Tirupati. This is not only the responsibility of municipal staff; every citizen must become a partner in this mission,” he said.
Commissioner M Jayakrishna said that from September 17 to October 17, the corporation will conduct shramdaan programmes in all 50 divisions of the city. He urged residents to separate wet and dry waste at source, avoid throwing garbage on roads and public spaces, and support the corporation’s target of making Tirupati a plastic-free city. Deputy Commissioner Amaraiah, Greenery and Beautification Corporation Chairperson Sugunamma, SVBC Chairman Sridhar Varma, Yadav Corporation Chairman Narasimha Yadav, TDP district president JB Srinivasulu and others were participated.
