No roads, no water, no vote: Abbugundu villagers announce election boycott
In Short
Angry over decades of neglect and lack of basic roads, drainage, and drinking water, Abbugundu villagers in Tirupati district boycott ZPTC and MPTC elections.

Residents of Abbugundu village of Puthalapattu constituency expressing their anguish; Abbugundu village road in pathetic condition
Tirupati: Residents of Abbugundu village in Irala mandal of Puthalapattu constituency have decided not to vote in the upcoming Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) and Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) elections, expressing their frustration over lack of basic facilities in their village.
Villagers say that they have been facing serious problems for generations, with no proper roads, drainage system or adequate drinking water facilities. Despite repeatedly bringing these issues to the attention of political leaders and government officials, they claim that no meaningful action has been taken so far.
Lack of road connectivity has become a major concern, particularly during medical emergencies. Villagers say that when someone falls ill or meets with an accident, reaching a hospital becomes extremely difficult due to the poor road conditions. The situation is even more dangerous at night, when delays in reaching medical facilities can put lives at risk. They claim that several people have lost their lives due to such difficulties.
Expressing their disappointment, the residents questioned whether their village is even recognised in official population records and, if so, why their basic needs continue to be ignored. The villagers also alleged that no political leader has seriously addressed their concerns despite several appeals over the years.
As a mark of protest, all the villagers have collectively decided to boycott ZPTC and MPTC elections scheduled to be held on Thursday. They have made it clear that they will not cast their votes until their long-pending problems are addressed and basic facilities are provided.
