Tirupati: Infrastructure projects worth Rs 214 crore will be implemented in six urban local bodies of Tirupati district under the Hybrid Annuity Modal (HYM), with the government and contractors sharing the project costs.
The programme will cover Tirupati Municipal Corporation and the municipalities of Srikalahasti, Naidupeta, Puttur, Sullurupeta and Venkatagiri. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu virtually laid the foundation stone for the projects from Kuppam on Tuesday.
Of the total amount, Rs 106 crore has been sanctioned for Tirupati Municipal Corporation. The funds will be used for construction of cement concrete roads, development of dividers, installation of streetlights and improvement of parks and green spaces.
As part of the Tirupati works, Rs 61.37 crore has been allocated for construction of 53.14 km of CC roads.
Another Rs 7.28 crore has been sanctioned for five works related to parks and greenery. Rs 13.93 crore has been earmarked for the development of four km of dividers and installation of 57,200 streetlights. Another Rs 23.42 crore has been allocated towards taxes and other related expenses, taking the total project cost for Tirupati to Rs 106 crore.
Under HAM, the government will initially pay 40 percent of the project cost, amounting to Rs 42 crore, to the contractor. The funds will be arranged through LRS and BPS funds by the government through the Directorate of Town and Country Planning.
The contractor will invest the remaining 60 percent which will be repaid by the government over 10 years in 40 quarterly instalments after completion of the works.
Another Rs 108 crore has been sanctioned for infrastructure development works in the other five municipalities. Srikalahasti has received the highest allocation of Rs 27 crore, followed by Naidupeta with Rs 21 crore, while Puttur, Sullurupeta and Venkatagiri get Rs 20 crore each.
Collector Dr S Venkateswar, Corporation Commissioner M Jayakrishna and others participated in the foundation stone laying programme for the works from Tirupati.
The Collector said the HAM system would ensure transparency in the execution of works and payment of funds while also providing financial assurance to contractors.Meanwhile, Annamayya District Collector Nishant Kumar said the Chief Minister had launched infrastructure development works worth Rs 94 crore under the HAM system in four urban local bodies in the district. Madanapalle was allocated Rs 27 crore, Rayachoti Rs 35 crore, B Kothakota Rs 12 crore and Punganur Rs 20 crore.
