  • Megastar laments that state govt going after film industry instead of focusing on important issues is like ‘Pichhuka pai Brahmastram’
  • Ruling party leaders, including minister Botcha, say the govt is already implementing a slew of welfare measures benefiting all sections

Vijayawada: Several ministers came down heavily on megastar and former politician Chiranjeevi over his comments on Andhra Pradesh government for going after film industry instead of concentrating on more important issues of the state. “The government should be more concerned about issues such as Special Category Status for AP, roads, infrastructure, poverty alleviation and providing employment to the youth. Instead of addressing these issues, targeting the film industry is quite below their stature. It is like ‘Pichhukapai Brahmastram’ (using a powerful weapon against a small sparrow),” the megastar remarked while speaking at the 200-day function of his film Waltair Veerayya on Tuesday.

Reacting to Chiranjeevi’s remarks, minister Botcha Satyanarayana wanted to know whether the megastar was admitting that ‘film industry a sparrow’. He said that the AP government has been implementing several welfare schemes to all sections of people without any discrimination. He said the state government would not involve in affairs of movie industry.

On Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan’s next edition of Varahi Yatra, the minister said the state government will not try to create hurdles to yatras taken up by any party. “JSP leaders are claiming that Pawan’s Visakha yatra is creating a buzz at national level. Is he also planning to resort to violence during his yatra like TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu in Punganur?,” he said.

Former minister Perni Venkatramaiah (Nani) said that though he is an admirer of Chiranjeevi, he feels film industry and politics are different issues.

“One should not make remarks against each other. When a minister danced along with people on Sankranti festival day, he was mocked through a character in a recently released movie,” he said.

Another former minister Kodali Sri Venkateswara Rao (Nani) said that Chiranjeevi should also advise him (referring indirectly to Pawan Kalyan) to “mind his own business of acting and dancing” instead of criticising and advising the state government.
