Civic chief inspects outfall drain desilting works

Vijayawada: Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) Commissioner HM Dhyanachandra inspected outfall drains and ongoing desilting works in several parts of the city on Wednesday, following continuous rains. He visited Vemula Shyamaladevi Road, Kandrika Junction and Inner Ring Road and reviewed the progress of desilting works being taken up to ensure the smooth flow of rainwater.

He also inspected several low-lying areas and directed officials to clear open drains and take immediate measures to drain out the accumulated rainwater.

During his field visit, the Commissioner also inspected Tikkle Road, Pinnamaneni Polyclinic Road, Gayatri Nagar, Fifth Route, Ramesh Hospitals Junction, Loyola College Road, Harijanawada, Dental College Road, Pulletikatta drain, Eluru Road, SRR College and Gulabi Thota. He reviewed development works, sanitation arrangements and the condition of roads in these areas.

At Gayatri Nagar, Dhyanachandra inspected the construction of an outfall drain and directed officials to speed up the work and complete it within the stipulated time. He also instructed officials to immediately fill potholes and restore the road near SRR-CVR College in Machavaram.

Speaking on the occasion, Dhyanachandra said extensive desilting works were being carried out in outfall drains to ensure uninterrupted flow of rainwater during the monsoon.

Later, the Commissioner conducted a surprise inspection of an RO water plant at Kundavari Kandrika village.

He examined whether regular water-quality tests were being conducted, whether test reports were properly maintained and whether only purified drinking water was being supplied to the public.

He also checked the trade licence of the plant and sanitation and hygiene conditions on the premises. Dhyanachandra said surprise inspections would be conducted regularly in addition to routine inspections by officials to ensure the quality of drinking water supplied through RO plants.
