National Efficient Cooking Programme (NECP).
Vijayawada: In a major push towards safer kitchens, energy efficiency and sustainable household practices, Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), under the Ministry of Power, has unveiled a multi-pronged strategy to accelerate the adoption of electric cooking (e-cooking) across the country under the National Efficient Cooking Programme (NECP).
With a special focus on household safety, affordability and environmental sustainability, the initiative seeks to take the benefits of modern electric cooking technologies beyond workplaces and into homes, encouraging employees, their families and the general public to embrace cleaner and more efficient cooking practices.
Launched by Union Minister for Power, Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Manohar Lal, the NECP represents an important step towards transforming India's household cooking ecosystem through energy-efficient electric cooking solutions.
Marking the occasion of Diwali, EESL CEO Akhilesh Kumar Dixit extended festive greetings to households and stakeholders and unveiled a special report on accelerating e-cooking solutions and technologies. He also announced an exclusive public and household offer featuring a 1,200W induction cooktop with compatible cookware at just Rs. 6,990 per unit, inclusive of taxes.
Highlighting the significance of the initiative, Dixit said that Diwali and Dhanteras are occasions when families come together to prepare festive delicacies and celebrate traditions passed down through generations. E-cooking, he said, offers households an opportunity to preserve these cherished traditions while embracing safer, cleaner and more energy-efficient cooking practices.
SAFER KITCHENS, CLEANER HOMES
Induction cooking eliminates open flames and combustion within the kitchen, substantially reducing the risks associated with conventional flame-based cooking, including fire hazards and accidental gas leakages. It also provides greater temperature control, convenience and a cleaner indoor cooking environment.
With induction cooktops transferring nearly 85 per cent of the energy directly to the cooking vessel, compared with approximately 40 per cent efficiency in conventional LPG cooking, e-cooking offers significant potential for reducing energy wastage. Depending on prevailing electricity tariffs and LPG prices, it can also deliver considerable savings to households, particularly those using non-subsidised LPG.
EESL is positioning e-cooking not merely as an alternative cooking technology but as a practical component of India's larger clean energy transition. Wider adoption can help reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels, improve energy utilisation and strengthen the country's long-term energy security.
AFFORDABLE SOLUTIONS FOR EVERY HOUSEHOLD
As part of its multi-pronged strategy, EESL is making available a range of energy-efficient induction cooking solutions to address diverse household requirements. These include:
• 1,200W induction cooktops for everyday cooking;
• 1,200W induction cooktops bundled with premium induction-compatible cookware; and
• High-quality SS-304 stainless-steel cookware sets designed for regular household use.
The special Diwali package, featuring an induction cooktop and compatible utensil at Rs. 6,990, is aimed at making the transition to modern electric cooking more accessible and affordable without compromising convenience or performance.
ADVANCING ESG AND SUSTAINABILITY GOALS
The initiative also complements the growing emphasis on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) commitments among organisations. Encouraging employees and their families to adopt energy-efficient cooking technologies creates tangible opportunities to promote responsible energy consumption, improve household safety and strengthen climate-conscious behaviour.
At the national level, the electrification of household cooking can contribute to reduced fossil-fuel dependence, lower energy wastage and a more resilient, self-reliant energy ecosystem. It also reinforces India's broader commitment to sustainable development and a cleaner energy future.
Several States across the country including Bihar,Assam,UP, Odissa,MP hVe taken initiative to implement Induction based e- cooking solutions.
Significantly Andhra pradesh has become champion of E- Cooking practices by completing the implementation on saturation basis in all Anganwadi centres by women and child welfare dept,which will have major impact on economic & environmental sustainability.
Go-Electric Clean Cooking Campaign
• "National Efficient Cooking Programme" (NECP), a subset of the Clean Cooking Scheme#, focuses on Non-Solar/Electricity-based Induction Cookstoves, aligning with the Go- electric initiative by the Ministry of Power.
• Adoption of Induction cook stoves among the DEEPAM Scheme Beneficiaries, Aanganwadis, Govt. Hostels, Hospitals, Guest Houses etc. will support Go-Electric Campaign of Ministry of Power, Govt. of India.
WHY MAKE THE SWITCH TO E-COOKING?
Key benefits of adopting induction-based electric cooking include:
• Enhanced kitchen safety through the elimination of open flames;
• Higher energy efficiency and reduced energy wastage;
• Cleaner indoor cooking environments without combustion-related emissions;
• Convenient cooking with better temperature control;
• Potential savings compared with non-subsidised LPG cooking, depending on local tariffs;
• Reduced dependence on imported cooking fuels; and
• Greater contribution towards sustainable lifestyles and national energy security.
Calling upon households across the country to embrace the initiative, EESL urged citizens to make informed and responsible cooking choices and become active participants in India's clean energy journey.
This Diwali, EESL's message is clear: Light Every Home with Prosperity and Every Kitchen with Safety. Choose Electric Cooking.
