Foundation stone laid for new facilities at Nimmakuru APRS

Nimmakuru (Krishna district): Foundation stone for the construction of a new boys’ dormitory, dining hall and kitchen at Nandamuri Lakshmaiah Venkata Ravamma Garla Samsmarana Residential Vocational School (NLVRGSRVS), popularly known as Andhra Pradesh Residential School (APRS), at Nimmakuru in Pamarru mandal of Krishna district was laid on Saturday.

School principal Mandali Bramaneswaramma laid the foundation stone on the school premises in the presence of teaching staff and students. She performed special pujas on the occasion. The State government has sanctioned Rs 6 crore for the construction of new facilities and issued a GO in this regard on January 30 last year.

Nimmakuru, the birthplace of late Chief Minister and legendary actor Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR), has a special connection with the residential school. NTR had encouraged establishment of residential educational institutions and donated his own land for the construction of AP Residential School and Junior College in memory of his parents, Nandamuri Lakshmaiah and Venkata Ravamma.

The existing school building and dormitories were constructed in 1990-91 and have since deteriorated considerably. In view of the poor condition of the infrastructure, Nara Bhuvaneswari, wife of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and daughter of NTR, visited the school on December 26 last year.

The Nimmakuru Old Students’ Association (NOSA) executive committee submitted a representation to her seeking funds for the construction of a new boys’ dormitory, kitchen and other essential facilities. Following Bhuvaneswari’s visit to the school and the representation submitted by NOSA, Minister for Human Resources Development Nara Lokesh took special steps to expedite the sanction of funds and commencement of the construction works.

After completion of the required technical procedures, the principal laid foundation stone for the new facilities on Saturday. The project is expected to provide improved accommodation and dining facilities for students and strengthen the overall infrastructure of the residential school.
