Vijayawada: Preparations for Vijayawada Utsav–Season 2 have begun with a foundation-laying ceremony for the festivities at the Makineni Basavapunnaiah Municipal Corporation (MBP) Stadium in Ajith Singh Nagar here on Sunday.
AP Cultural Corporation chairperson Tejaswini, Nagavamsam Corporation chairman Yerabothu Ramana, Andhra Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (APBOCWWB) chairman Gottumukkala Raghu Rama Raju and Bonda Siddhartha, son of Government Whip and Vijayawada Central MLA Bonda Umamaheswara Rao, performed special pujas and participated in the foundation-laying ceremony. The 10-day festival will showcase the spiritual, cultural and artistic heritage of Vijayawada as part of the Dasara celebrations. The organisers said the President of India and several Chief Ministers of other States were expected to attend the festivities. Programmes at Punnami Ghat and the MBP Stadium will be among the major attractions.
Speaking on the occasion, Tejaswini said around 40 to 45 folk and traditional art forms from across Andhra Pradesh would be showcased. Nationally and internationally acclaimed artistes, popular singers, bhajan-jamming groups, live bands and musical concerts would be part of the celebrations. Competitions involving students, youth, women and families would be organised in various categories from October 8 to 12, she said. Further, she said the grand finale on October 20 would feature three elephants, replicas of the nine forms of Goddess Durga and around 4,000 artistes in a massive carnival along Eluru Road. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is expected to attend the carnival, she added.
Gottumukkala Raghu Rama Raju said the second edition of Vijayawada Utsav was being organised under the aegis of the Society for Vibrant Vijayawada. A variety of programmes would be held at the MBP Stadium, Punnami Ghat, Siddhartha Pharma College and Pavitra Sangamam. He said laser shows, drone shows and cracker shows would be among the special attractions this year. While local artistes would be given priority, prominent cultural troupes from across the country would also be invited to Vijayawada, providing them with opportunities and encouragement.
