Vijayawada: MP Kesineni Sivanath (Chinni) has said that the emphatic victory of the NDA in the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) elections has placed a greater responsibility on the elected representatives to fulfil people’s aspirations and accelerate the city’s development.

The newly elected Mayor, Vangaveeti Radhakrishna, was felicitated at the MP’s office on Wednesday in the presence of Vijayawada East MLA Gadde Ramamohan, NTR district TDP parliamentary constituency in-charge Makkena Mallikarjuna Rao, TDP president Gadde Anuradha, BJP NTR district president Adduri Sriram, former MLC Buddha Venkanna and other alliance leaders.

Speaking on the occasion, Kesineni Chinni said the alliance had won 76 of the 86 divisions, reflecting the confidence reposed in it by the people. He said the alliance had initially expected to win 76 divisions but had exceeded its target despite relatively low voter turnout.

He described the verdict as an endorsement of the development and welfare programmes being implemented by the coalition government.

The victory had demonstrated that people continued to support the alliance irrespective of whether elections were conducted through EVMs or ballot papers, he added.

Radhakrishna said his primary objective was to ensure the city’s overall development by taking all political parties and corporators into confidence.

He would identify civic problems and take them to the notice of the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister to secure the necessary government support.
