Vijayawada: Thick smoke emanated from a coach of the Vande Bharat Express when the train arrived at and halted at Vijayawada railway station while travelling from Narsapur to Chennai, causing panic among passengers on Wednesday. Railway officials said that when Vande Bharat Express (20678) from Narsapur to Chennai arrived at Vijayawada Railway Station, a hot axle was detected in the C4 coach, prompting railway staff to take immediate safety measures.
According to Vijayawada divisional railway authorities, the train reached Vijayawada at around 5 pm, when railway personnel detected the hot axle in the C4 coach. The staff immediately reached the coach and alerted the technical and safety teams. Passengers in the coach were evacuated as a precautionary measure following the detection of the technical issue. Railway staff acted promptly and took the necessary measures, averting any untoward incident.
Railway authorities said necessary technical and safety measures were taken immediately and the situation was being closely monitored. A help desk was also set up at the station to assist the affected passengers. The authorities made arrangements for waiting facilities, drinking water and food for the passengers. An alternative train was also arranged to facilitate their onward journey.
Officials said necessary assistance was being provided to the passengers and railway teams were closely monitoring the situation to ensure their safety and convenience.
