Vijayawada: CPM State Secretariat member Ch Babu Rao has criticised the Centre and the Andhra Pradesh coalition government for failing to control the rising prices of essential commodities, including rice, pulses, edible oils and vegetables. He urged people to express their protest against the governments through their votes in the forthcoming local body elections.
Addressing a CPM Praja Poru Yatra organised in the 25th Division of Rani Gari Thota here, Babu Rao said prices of essential commodities had reached unaffordable levels, making it difficult for ordinary families to manage their daily expenses. The price of a rice bag had increased from Rs 1,200 to Rs 2,000, while the prices of pulses, edible oils, onions, sugar and vegetables had also surged. Babu Rao questioned the delay in implementing promises such as financial assistance of Rs 1,500 per month for women and unemployment allowance.
He also asked why land titles had not been issued to thousands of poor families living along the Krishna river bund, even as permissions were being granted for large buildings belonging to affluent organisations.
