Vijayawada: City bags multiple honours at Swachh Andhra Awards-2026
Vijayawada has earned significant recognition at the State level for its sanitation, environmental and cleanliness initiatives. The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has been selected for two awards under the Swachh Andhra Awards-2026, instituted by the State government.
VMC has secured an award in the category of municipal corporations with a population of three lakh and above.
It has also received special recognition under the Vayu Sarvekshan category for its efforts related to air quality and environmental management.
Apart from the VMC, three other institutions associated with Vijayawada have also been selected for awards in different categories. The Payakapuram Rythu Bazaar has been recognised in the Swachh Rythu Bazaars category for its cleanliness and sanitation measures.
City of Terrace Gardens (CTG), Vijayawada, has been selected for an award in the NGO category for its contribution to cleanliness and environmental initiatives. The Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam has also been chosen for an award under the category of Swachh Temples and Religious Institutions.
The Swachh Andhra Awards-2026 presentation ceremony will be held at A-Convention here on October 2, coinciding with Gandhi Jayanthi. Municipal bodies, gram panchayats, schools, hospitals, Rythu Bazaars, temples and sanitation organisations from across the state that have been selected in various categories will receive the awards at the event.
