Visakhapatnam: In view of the heavy rainfall and strong winds associated with Cyclone Murasu, Sandeep Mathur, General Manager, South Coast Railway (SCoR), reviewed the safety measures and disaster management across the zone to ensure the safety of passengers, railway personnel and train operations. The General Manager is monitoring the situation round the clock.

South Coast Railway has put up round-the-clock surveillance of vulnerable railway bridges, tracks, yards and signalling systems.

Attention is being given to clearing debris from the sites, while patrolmen and watchmen are deployed at vulnerable locations and bridges. Adequate stocks of emergency track maintenance materials have also been ensured.

Sandeep Mathur directed officials to maintain close coordination with state government authorities and continuously monitor weather advisories issued by the meteorological department.

24x7 War room has been set up at SCoR zonal headquarters and divisional headquarters for better coordination to facilitate swift response to emergencies.

Meanwhile, passenger assistance and safety arrangements are strengthened. Help desks are being established at major stations to provide timely information, while additional counters will be operated to facilitate refunds for cancelled train tickets. Medical teams, first-aid facilities and ambulances are kept ready to meet round-the-clock emergency assistance. However, as a precautionary measure to avoid inconvenience to passengers, some trains in the affected areas have been cancelled, while others have been diverted and rescheduled.
