Hanumakonda: CPI State Assistant Secretary Takkalpalli Srinivasa Rao said the BJP had no role in the Telangana armed struggle and alleged that the party was attempting to distort its history for political gains. He said it was the red flag that inspired ordinary people to become fighters against the oppressive rule of the Nizam and landlords.

CPI leaders paid homage to Telangana Veeranari Chakali Ailamma at Fatima Junction in Kazipet while proceeding to Hyderabad for the concluding public meeting of Telangana Armed Struggle Week.

Rao said the communist-led struggle had resulted in the distribution of nearly 10 lakh acres of land and the liberation of around 3,000 villages. He said 4,500 people had sacrificed their lives during the movement.

He demanded that the government officially celebrate Telangana Merger Day, install statues of armed-struggle heroes on Tank Bund and include the struggle’s history in textbooks. He warned against portraying the movement as a Hindu-Muslim conflict.
