BRICS Summit: 30,000 Security Personnel Deployed In Delhi, Xi Jinping And Putin To Stay Separately

Security has been significantly tightened across New Delhi ahead of the BRICS Summit, with around 30,000 personnel deployed to secure airports, hotels and the summit venue at Bharat Mandapam.

Chinese and Russian security teams have already arrived in the capital as preparations intensify for the visits of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Xi, Putin To Arrive In Delhi This Week

According to officials, Putin is expected to arrive in India on September 11, while Xi is likely to reach the capital on September 12.

Both leaders are expected to land at the Air Force Station in Palam before travelling to hotels in the Chanakyapuri area.

Security personnel accompanying the two leaders have already begun coordinating with Indian agencies. Sources said the foreign security teams have brought specialised security equipment and weapons and have been deployed across different levels of the hotels, including the floors where the leaders will stay, rooftops and ground areas.

The Delhi Police Special Cell has been assigned responsibility for security arrangements related to the Chinese President.

At the hotel where Putin is expected to stay, an additional Deputy Commissioner of Police and two Assistant Commissioners of Police have been deployed in separate shifts.

Hotel Staff Undergo Extensive Verification

Authorities have also carried out detailed verification of hotel employees involved in arrangements for the visiting dignitaries.

Sources said the checks were conducted not only in Delhi but also in the employees' respective home states.

Both Russia and China are also expected to bring some vehicles for their leaders' motorcades by aircraft, adding another layer to the logistical and security preparations.

30,000 Personnel To Guard Summit

The Delhi Police has deployed approximately 30,000 security personnel for the summit.

About half of them are from the Delhi Police, while the remaining personnel have been drawn from paramilitary forces.

To streamline coordination, the security network has been divided into multiple sectors. Each sector is being supervised by either a Deputy Commissioner of Police or an Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police.

Security arrangements cover key locations, including the airport, hotels hosting foreign dignitaries and Bharat Mandapam, where the summit will be held.

Several security drills have already been conducted around the venue.

Leaders To Be Housed Across Multiple Hotels

Most foreign leaders and senior dignitaries attending the BRICS Summit will be accommodated at different hotels across New Delhi.

The President of Indonesia, Prime Minister of Ethiopia, President of Kazakhstan and Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister are expected to stay at one hotel.

The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, along with the finance ministers of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Brazil, will be accommodated at another property.

Putin is expected to share a hotel with VIP dignitaries from Bangladesh.

The President of South Africa is scheduled to stay at a hotel with the President of Burundi, while leaders and senior representatives from the Philippines, Vietnam, Bolivia, Cuba and Uruguay will be accommodated together.

The President of Iran will stay at a separate hotel.

Xi is expected to stay at the same hotel as the President of Belarus. The Prime Minister of Malaysia, a Nigerian minister of state, Uganda's Vice-President and the UN Secretary-General are also expected to share another hotel.

Motorcade Routes Rehearsed Ahead Of Summit

Heads of state and government attending the summit are expected to reach Bharat Mandapam between 1:30 pm and 2:15 pm on Saturday.

On Sunday, their arrival is scheduled between 8:50 am and 9:25 am.

The UAE Crown Prince is expected to be the first dignitary to reach the venue on both days, while Putin is likely to arrive last, preceded by Xi.

Russia and China are expected to have the largest motorcades among the visiting delegations.

A number of rehearsals have already been held to be ready for the foreign dignitaries' journey to and from Bharat Mandapam, and Delhi Traffic Police has decided on specific routes for their transportation.

For the length of the BRICS Summit, authorities have implemented a comprehensive security and traffic control grid in the capital due to the rapid arrival of several prominent leaders.
