Congress Accuses BJP Of Poaching MLAs In MP
The Congress accused the BJP of trying to poach its MLAs in Madhya Pradesh by luring them with huge amounts of money.
Bhopal: The Congress accused the BJP of trying to poach its MLAs in Madhya Pradesh by luring them with huge amounts of money. Congress leaders charged the BJP of stepping up its poaching activities and attempting to topple the Kamalnath-led government desperately ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections.
Eight Congress MLAs are said to have been holed up at ITC Maurya in Manesar while one Congress MLA and two Independents are reported to have been shifted to Karnataka. Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Digvijay Singh had alleged that the BJP was offering as much as Rs.25 Cr to Congress MLAs to cross over. He said that the ruling party MLAs had rebuffed the offer.
Meanwhile former Madhya Pradesh chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan of the BJP is likely to meet BJP president JP Nadda in Delhi on Wednesday.
The Congress has alleged that the BJP has been trying to topple the Kamal Nath government for a long time and with Rajya Sabha elections approaching the BJP seems to be moving faster on this track. The BJP wants is said to be aiming at securing two seats in the Upper House. It is reportedly keen in view of a string of losses it suffered in elections over the last two years in state assembly elections. For winning these two Rajya Sabha seats, they would need the support of around eight more legislators, the Congress said.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath has however said that there is no threat to his government. The deputy chief minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has not yet responded to the moves of the BJP to destabilise the Kamal Nath government in the state.
The Congress government in MP has a strength of 121 MLAs with 114 of them from the ruling party, 2 BSP, 1 SP, and 4 Independent. The opposition BJP has 107 MLAs. There are 2 vacancies in the assembly.
