Guwahati Murder: Man Claims He Killed Wife, Threatens ‘Sugar Daddy’ After Jail Release

The man charged with the murder of his 25-year-old wife in Guwahati has reportedly told reporters on Tuesday that he has no remorse for the killing and will strike out at another person once he is released.

Ramanuj Goswami made the remarks while being taken to a court, a day after he was remanded to seven days of police custody in connection with the death of his wife, Riya Talukdar.

In Assamese, Goswami told the reporters that he had murdered Talukdar, and after serving his jail sentence, he would “kill the sugar daddy”. He did not name the individual after repeated questioning by journalists, and reportedly ended up becoming agitated during the questioning process.

He also told reporters that he had “no regrets” and offered no apology.

Woman’s Body Found After Neighbours Report Foul Smell

The case came to light on September 6 after neighbours alerted police about a strong foul smell coming from the couple’s apartment in Guwahati.

Residents also told investigators that they had not seen the newly married couple for nearly two days and that both their mobile phones appeared to be switched off.

Police subsequently forced open the apartment and discovered Talukdar’s body inside. Investigators found that her fingers had reportedly been partially chopped, while the body had begun decomposing. Her head was initially missing from the scene.

A search of the apartment later led police to a refrigerator, where Talukdar’s severed head was allegedly found inside a polythene bag.

Husband Surrenders After Nearly Two Days

Goswami was not present at the apartment when police arrived. Neighbours reportedly told investigators that he had last been seen on Friday.

Police launched a search for him as they investigated the circumstances surrounding Talukdar’s death.

Goswami eventually surrendered before police late on Sunday night, after remaining away from the residence for almost two days.

A court subsequently sent him to seven days of police custody. Investigators are questioning him to establish the motive and reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the alleged murder.

Police Suspect Sharp-Weapon Attack

According to investigators, Goswami is suspected of attacking Talukdar with a sharp weapon following an altercation.

The precise circumstances of the dispute remain under investigation. His reference to a person as the “sugar daddy” is also expected to be examined as police try to determine who he was referring to and whether the remark has any connection with the alleged crime.

The woman's body and severed head have been sent for post-mortem examination.

Investigation Underway

Police are continuing to question Goswami and gather evidence to establish what happened inside the apartment.

The investigation is also expected to examine the couple’s recent marriage, the events preceding Talukdar’s death and Goswami’s alleged remarks about another individual.

Goswami’s statements to reporters are part of the developing case, while the investigation into the murder and the circumstances surrounding it remains ongoing.
