Five members of a family were found dead inside their home in Greater Noida on Saturday morning, with police suspecting that the deaths were linked to a long-running property dispute.

According to police sources cited by NDTV, Mahesh, 37, allegedly mixed poison into noodles consumed by his family before the deaths. Investigators are examining an audio note recovered from his phone in which he reportedly blamed his two sisters and a brother-in-law.

Five Family Members Found Dead In Greater Noida

Mahesh, his 35-year-old wife Lalita, their daughter Mishti, 7, and sons Laddu, 11, and Sakshat, 3, were found dead in a room at their home in Nagla Shri Padam village around 8 am on Saturday.

Members of the family had reportedly gone to a local fair on Friday evening and returned home about 10 pm. The incident happened after they had dinner of noodles, and initially, they were suspected of having food poisoning.

Investigators now believe, however, that a poison may have been purposely added to the food.

Audio Note Recovered, Relatives Taken Into Custody

Police sources told that an audio note recovered from Mahesh’s phone contained allegations against his two sisters and a brother-in-law.

The three relatives have since been taken into custody as the investigation continues.

Neeraj, Mahesh’s sister-in-law, told NDTV that tensions had persisted over the division of family property. She also alleged that she was forced out of the house after her husband’s death and said Mahesh had assured her that the family would eventually live together again.

The precise circumstances surrounding the deaths and the alleged role of the relatives remain under investigation.

Food Safety Officials Suspect Poisoning

Food safety officials who inspected the scene said the available evidence did not point towards conventional food poisoning.

Food Safety Officer OP Singh said his team examined food wrappers and other materials recovered from the location but found no expired items.

“It does not appear to be a case of food poisoning. We suspect it is a case of poisoning involving a toxic substance,” Singh told news agency PTI.

There was no indication that the victims had suffered from vomiting or diarrhoea, which is a usual phenomenon in food poisoning, he added.

The local residents shared information about one of the children spitting foam.

The case is still under investigation and investigators are trying to determine the exact cause of death and the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
