The people who live in the villages woke up early in the morning and after taking the bath traditionally with Kunkudukai (soap nut) juice and regi pandlu (plums), they headed to the Bhogi Mantalu, the fire that marks the festival of Bhogi. It is believed that Bhogi is the giver of Bhogabhagyalu (enjoyment and prosperity). The children accompanied by the adults thrown the Bhogi Pidakalu into the holy fire with great joy.

Some children even threw old wood and other wooden materials into the fire. As tradition has it, useless possessions would be thrown into this holy fire to mark new beginnings and change after the harvest season. All old vices and attachments to material possessions are sacrificed to the fire.

Deputy Chief Minister, Nimmakayala China Rajappa participated in Bhogi at Amalapuram town while other TDP MLAs were busy in celebrating the three-day-long festival in their respective villages in the district. The villages witness huge gatherings as all the three days of this festival celebrated in a much more vibrant manner than in the cities.
