Hyderabad: Alleging that several Congress leaders in the State, particularly the businessmen-turned-politicians, had committed economic offences like not repaying the loans they had taken from various banks, Rajya Sabha MP V Hanumantha Rao on Wednesday urged AICC president Sonia Gandhi to black list such persons from contesting Lok Sabha elections in 2014.

In a letter addressed to the party president, Rao said that in order to realise the vision of Rahul Gandhi the Congress party should take proactive steps and see that all the ‘selfish’ people were kept away from the party. “This would send a strong message across the country that the party was committed to root out corruption and bring transparency in the governance,” he stated.

Rao, in his letter, further said that some people in the Congress party, especially from Andhra Pradesh, had joined politics to further their personal and business interests and their actions had brought a bad name to the party.

“Such people utilised the opportunities given to them by the party and using their official position raised huge loans from banks but failed to repay them. They are now turning against the party ideologies and are making moves to shift their loyalties to other parties,” he alleged.

The MP further added that such ‘corrupt elements’ need to be kept out of the party if the vision of Rahul Gandhi to provide a corruption-free government was to be realised.
