Chiranjeevi, who is in the capital to finalise the list of party candidates for the simultaneous Assembly and Parliament elections in Andhra Pradesh, sees an opportunity to build the Congress anew, after the desertions from the Congress of several senior leaders, in the wake of the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.

As the nominations have opened on Saturday and will close on next Saturday, the Congress High Command is expected to expeditiously finalise the list of candidates of the Congress soon. The APCC leaders will discuss the candidates with the Congress High Command, in the light of which the candidates selection will be finalised.
The very fact that as many as 1,200 applications have been received for the party tickets, he said, is very encouraging and it gives hope for the future of the Congress in Andhra Pradesh. A preliminary exercise has been done over the applications received and now the issue of selection of candidates will be taken up by the Congress High Command. The Congress has managed to retain the party cadres in the State, despite the senior leaders leaving the party. With the loss of top leaders, the Congress sees an opportunity to induct young and more idealistic people into the party and give them party tickets. This would enable them to shape up as the future leaders of the party.
