Seemingly, there is no good fortune for Guntur city to get the Metro rail project as the Guntur people are in hope after the announcement made by the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N.Chandrababu Naidu that if the City Vijayawada as capital for Andhra Pradesh the metro rail could extend to the Guntur area.

However, after the first visit of Metro rail expert E. Sridharan to study the feasibilities of Metro at Vijayawada, said it could not be possible till Guntur as the City Vijayawada itself has the route of 25-26 kilometers of Metro rail and moreover it can be extended only to one city as it is not at all a profitable project.

As per early estimates, Sreedharan suggested that it would be suitable for the Government to take up the project rather than any other mode and said it might require about Rs. 250 crore for one kilometer extension and a total project would be about Rs. 7,500 to 8000 crore for 26 km on two corridors and he said the detailed project report would be ready by January 2015.
