Vizianagaram: Union Minister P Ashok Gajapathi Raju on Saturday bitterly criticised the Congress leaders for their shortcomings during the State division and said that Andhra Pradesh was facing problems because of them. Speaking to the media, after reviewing the ‘Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Grama Sansad Yojana’ in Dwarapudi village, which he had selected, he ridiculed Botcha Satyanarayana, who was APCC chief during the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, wondering whether he was literate.


He attributed the then clashes among police personnel of Telangana and AP to improper State division. The Minister, who paid the first year insurance premiums to16 drivers of Dwarapudi under the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bheema Yojana, expressed anguish over the State not being accorded the special category status.

He said while the Congress leaders in the State were demanding special category status, the party chief ministers elsewhere in the country were opposing the demand. Efforts on non-party basis should be made for securing the special status. Raju stated that the Suraksha Bheema Yojana would benefit the poor.He said public awareness about the benefits would be created through the Telugu Desam Party activists.

Referring to the AgriGold scam, the Minister said the government would initiate action if a report on the company’s irregularities was presented.While expressing happiness over the progress of development in Dwarapudi, he appealed to everyone to actively participate in the Neeru-Chettu programme. The Minister noted with happiness that rain harvesting pits were being taken up after many days. He directed the officials to rectify the problems caused in ration shops following the use of e-pass machines and ensure that the poor received their commodities on time.
