International Women’s Day celebrations were held on a grand note at Vasavya Mahila Mandali in the city on Tuesday. The organisation felicitated a few personalities from the city who excelled in various walks of life on the occasion.

Vijayawada: International Women’s Day celebrations were held on a grand note at Vasavya Mahila Mandali in the city on Tuesday. The organisation felicitated a few personalities from the city who excelled in various walks of life on the occasion.

Speaking at the event as a chief guest, secretary of Andhra Pradesh Grandhalaya Samstha Raavi Sarada observed that women who spend time at home could make it more purposeful by taking to books. “Instead of spending quality time over television soap operas, one can take to book reading, which widens their horizons and helps in bringing up their children and tackling things in a better possible way. Women shouldn’t forget that it is their contribution towards family and responsibilities that bring an image.”

Vice-president of VMM P Vedavathi shared that a study proved that men are reluctant or unhappy to work under a woman boss.

Former MP and founder of VMM Chennupati Vidya called upon the women to take part in social activities and render their services in whichever way possible.

Secretary of VMM G Rashmi said that women should work towards achieving 50:50 ratio in all aspects of opportunities by 2030.

As many as 22 women corporators including Telugu Book of Records coordinator T Kanaka Mahalakshmi, Kuchipudi dancer B Sowmya, and Ring dance artist from Tanuku J Ambica were felicitated. VMM Technical Director Dr Keerthi and others were present during the event.
