Vijayawada: Decision taken by the Krishna district administration to shift the Rytu Bazaar from Swarajya Maidan to Ryves canal bund near Alankar theatre is snowballing into major controversy as the Left parties have decided to launch the agitation demanding the Government to withdraw the decision and continue the Rytu Bazaar at the same place. The district administration has decided to shift the Rytu Bazaar and found the alternative site.
The CPI conducted a round-table on Wednesday and discussed the action plan to launch agitation to save the Rytu Bazaar. The CPM, the Congress and others also attended the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, the CPI city secretary, Donepudi Sankar, said the Swarajya Maidan has great history and used by public for various purposes. He recalled the Left parties have named the ground as Swarajya Maidan because Mahatma Gandhi delivered a speech at the Maidan during the freedom struggle.
He said the Swarajya Maidan was used for public needs and it should not be changed as park or vehicle parking place. He said it was wrong to shift the Rytu Bazaar from Swarajya Maidan due to its location in high security zone. He said thousands of people use the Rytu Bazaar everyday and it should not be shifted. He said a memorandum will be submitted to the Krishna District Collector on April 2 and signatures will be collected on April 3 and protests will be held on April 4 near the Swarajya Maidan asking the Government to cancel the decision.
City Congress president Malladi Vishnu found fault with the Government on shifting the Rytu Bazaar from Swarajya Maidan. He demanded that the Government withdraw decision on shifting the Rytu Bazaar and underlined the need to use the Swarajya Maidan for the public use as usual.
CPM city secretary Donepudi Kasinath, the Congress official spokesman Kolanukonda Sivaji, Vijayawada Mahila Samaakhya secretary P Durgamba and others spoke on the occasion. The parties have decided to continue agitation till the Government scraps the decision on shifting the Rytu Bazaar to Ryves canal bund.
