Remove silt weed from canals in 3 days: Collector K Bhaskar

ā€‹Eluru: West Godavari District Collector K Bhaskar has directed the irrigation officials to remove the silt and weed in the Godavari main and bank canals within three days. He assured the farmers that the administration will supply water to every acre in Delta area for this crop season.

He presided over the District Irrigation Advisory Board meeting held at Mandal Parishad officer's office at Peravali village
in West Godavari district on Tuesday.

Speaking at the meeting, the Collector said that during present khariff season farmers had started agricultural works in 4.50 lakh acres in Godavari delta. However, the water flow has slowed down due to garbage and animal dead bodies and weed in the canals.

He directed the irrigation officials to remove the silt and weed in Jinnuru, Chinchinada canals, Narsapuram main and bank canals on a war-footing. He directed to use machinery to remove the silt and supply water to downstream areas.

He said there was no paucity of funds. He said during Rabi season, the farmers got higher yielding, even though there was scarcity of water.

He assured that during Khariff also, the administration would supply water to every acre to save the crop. He said the district administration has taken up steps to fill up the Laskar posts in the irrigation department.

Nidadavole MLA Burugupalli Sesharao suggested for preparing a calendar on the repair works to regulators, shutters, check dams by irrigation department.

He suggested a comprehensive action plan to supply irrigation water to tail-end lands also during Kharif.Tanuku MLA Arimilli Radhakrishna alleged that due to lack of coordination between irrigation officials, irrigation works could not ne taken up in the last two agricultural seasons.

He said the officials had failed to properly implement the delta modernisation works. He said the officials have to work with coordination and have to complete the tenders by December for the works to be taken up during coming summer.

Palacole MLA Nimmala Ramanaidu said that water to tail-end lands in Palacole constituency has not supplied properly. He pointed out that during last rabi season, crop holiday was declared in 8,000 acres in his constituency.

Narsapuram MLA Bandaru Madhava Naidu said that even though water was released by June 1 to the canals, the farm fields in Narsapuram constituency did not get the water and said that it was difficult to get water by August also.

Delta Project committee Chairman Kothuru Ramanjaneyulu said that the water release capacity to Godavari western delta at Vijjeswaram barrage is 6,500 cusecs and requested to increase by another 1,000 cusecs. Sidhantham Water Users Association president Tammineedi Prasad, Kovvuru RDO Srinivasa Rao, Agriculture Joint Director Y Sai Lakshmeswari Irrigation Chief Engineer Haribabu and others participated in the meeting.
