Man branded as sorcerer ends life

Police identified the deceased as Karagana Raja Rao (50). It is learnt that some villagers went to Raja Rao’s house on Tuesday and attacked him alleging that he was practising sorcery.
Srikakulam: A man committed suicide at Kanimetta village in Ponduru mandal on Tuesday unable to bear alleged harassment by some villagers who branded him as a sorcerer.
Police identified the deceased as Karagana Raja Rao (50). It is learnt that some villagers went to Raja Rao’s house on Tuesday and attacked him alleging that he was practising sorcery.
Unable to digest the humiliation, he consumed pesticide at his house when he was alone in the evening and died. Neighbours, who witnessed the incident, informed the police. On receiving information, police rushed to the spot and registered a case against four persons on the charge of abetment to suicide.
