Visakhapatnam: Andhra University vice-chancellor Prof G Nageswara Rao was surprised and upset over low attendance of students, faculty and administrative staff members. He was shocked at finding just one student sitting in the classroom of Sociology first year on Monday.

When enquired about the absence of students though classes have begun a month ago, the faculty members told him that most of the students were staying back in the hostel rooms rather than attending the classes.

He immediately asked the principal of Arts College to issue notices to the students for not attending the classes regularly. Similarly, he checked the attendance register of the staff members and warned the superintendents that action would be taken against them if the attendance was low. The vice-chancellor also visited Platinum Jubilee Hostel and found poor sanitation in the kitchen and surroundings.
