Eluru: The Vasavi Shanthidhamam pontiff Krishnanandapuri Swamy enshrined the Panchaloha ‘divine feet’ of the goddess at Vasavi Kanyaka temple at Penugonda village in the district on Saturday.

The ceremony was organised by Vasavi Trust. Earlier, hundreds of devotees took the 1.5-ton feet in a procession to the temple. The sandals were brought to Penugonda in a big procession that traversed through Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh and reached the Vasavi Kanyaka Temple.

Penugonda is considered to be the birth place of the goddess and is a well-known pilgrim centre. Achanta MLA Pithani Satyanarayana, Vasavi Trust Chairman Govindarajulu, Secretary KR Krishna and MLC Angara Ram Mohan take part in the procession. At the temple, the pontiff performed the ‘Samprokshanam’ and other rituals and enshrined the feet in the temple.

The Vasavi Trust is constructing a 90-foot Panchaloha idol of Goddess Vasavi Kanyaka weighing 45 tons at a cost of Rs 100 Crores, for the temple. The Vasavi Trust will conduct the Kumbhabhishekam to the idol on January 30, 2017, after enshrining it.
