Handri Neeva canal widening plans lauded

CPI here on Thursday welcomed the State government’s plans to widen the Handri-Neeva project canal. CPI State secretary K Ramakrishna thanked Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for deciding to widen the canal which, if completed, would fight drought in the Rayalaseema districts.
Vijayawada: CPI here on Thursday welcomed the State government’s plans to widen the Handri-Neeva project canal. CPI State secretary K Ramakrishna thanked Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for deciding to widen the canal which, if completed, would fight drought in the Rayalaseema districts.
He said farmers of Rayalaseema region have been losing crops every year due to lack of water. The project was aimed at addressing the continuous drought condition, he said.
The CPI leader added that the people of the region have been asking for the development and widening of the canal for several years.
He requested Naidu to start the work soon, so as to provide irrigation water for the region by the next crop year.
