Vijayawada: Tax Payers’ Association (TAP) alleged that the budget proposals of Vijayawada Municipal Corporation were illogical and lot of inconsistency between estimations of income and expenditure.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, TAP secretary M V Anjaneyulu said that the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation proposed Rs 20 crore expenditure for road works despite the income estimation is
Rs 10 crore for the same.
Surprisingly, the income was Rs 3 crore for road works account, but the expenditure was cited Rs 7 crore in 2016-17, he said, adding that expenditure quoted Rs 3 crore in 2015-16 despite no allocation of funds for the same.
He asked the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation officials how it is possible that expenditure was more than the income under the same account.
Anjaneyulu said the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation did not allocate funds for the Budameru channel development works, but Rs 16 crore had been showed as expenditure in 2015-16 financial year.
“The expenditure for Budameru works was cited as Rs 28.55 crore despite none of the income was showed in budget estimations of 2016-17”, he pointed out.
The income of sewerage charges did not exceeded Rs 17 crore in any year respectively from 2013 to 2016, but in the fresh budget proposals of 2017-18, the income has been projected about Rs 50 crore.
Anjaneyulu said that Rs 53 lakh was spent in the name of study tour of Vijayawada Municipal Corporation corporators in 2016 and Rs 60 lakh has been proposed for the same purpose while budget allocations have been cut by half comparing with the last budget proposals for maintenance of community hospitals in the city.
He said the government did not allocate funds for improving drinking water facilities in the East and Central Assembly constituencies in the city for the last three years, but the VMC had been projecting some estimations in the every budget and Rs 52 lakh and Rs 43 lakh were cited for the two constituencies in the present budget proposals too.
Anjaneyulu said the VMC was planning to enhance water and property taxes in the present budget which would be a burden on the common man..
