According to fisheries department authorities, funds to the tune of Rs 6 crore were allocated by state government to meet the requirements of loss compensation.

Kakinada: Fisheries department initiated measures to disburse compensation to fishermen, due to 61-day fishing ban from April 15 to June 14. Fishermen are entitled to get Rs 4,000 towards loss compensation for the 61 day ban period. According to fisheries department authorities, funds to the tune of Rs 6 crore were allocated by state government to meet the requirements of loss compensation.

In the preliminary assessment the fisheries department identified 18,000 beneficiaries in the district, from the 5,996 motored and mechanised boats, which venture into sea for fishing from the 21 fish landing centres across the district covering 13 sea coast mandals.

Deputy director of fisheries A Rammohan Rao said that they were making final verification of beneficiaries list. “We will credit the compensation amount in the bank accounts of the beneficiaries after completion of verification process,” he informed.
