Visakhapatnam: Truth is at risk in present times due to proliferation of fake news and therefore our nation, too, is facing a serious threat, said popular theatre artiste MK Raina who was in the city for mentoring a workshop of National School of Drama at Andhra University.

He delivered a lecture at the workshop organised jointly by the Vizag Film Society (VJF) and Department of Journalism and Mass Communication in Andhra University on Tuesday.

Calling upon the students to be aware of fake news and its implications on the public consciousness in the society, the country’s prominent theatre actor said that one cannot be a good journalist without taking lessons in social sciences. He said that the journalism and theatre play a significant role in bringing positive change in the society and for that journalists should become more social conscience and focus their attention on real news.

“To reassert ourselves globally and get rid of colonial baggage, we should encourage our local art and culture of every region,” said renowned theatre director.

He said it is the need of the hour to have a new model of the development for the survival of this nation and people.
HoD Dr Challa Ramakrishna, VJF president Narava Prakasa Rao, Prof P Bobby Vardhan, Prof DVR Murthy and PV Ramana of VJF and others attended.
