The owners of the mechanised boats in Bhogapuram and Pusapatirega are repairing their boats. Only the fishermen, who can venture into the sea with the help of country boats, are fishing now, and getting less fish to shore. So, the price of the fish has become costlier than normal days. Apart from this, party organisers and hoteliers are purchasing the fish and prawns in bulk from the market.

B Chinappanna, Chairman, Fisherman Cooperative Society Limited of Vizianagaram district, said around 200 mechanised boats were anchored at the shore. Now, the fishermen are searching for an alternative income source as they are not getting enough fish for their livelihood. Fisherman in Pusapatirega, Bhogapuram, Tippalavalasa and Chintapalli are facing struggle to lead their life as they did not know anything than fishing.”

Bocchelu , Bangaaru teega are the common variety available in Tatipudi, Vengalarayasagar, Thotapalli and Peddagedda reservoirs. The cost of this variety is around Rs 120 to Rs 130 per kg and now the price has shot up to Rs 170. Apart these varieties, murrel, which has high demand, became dearer. The price of murrel ios Rs 250 per kg in normal days but now it costs around Rs 400 per kg.

Vanjaram, the top brand sea fish now being sold at Rs 400 per kg, whereas the cost of the same fish is around Rs 250 in normal days. Even the big size tiger prawns are also being sold at Rs 400 now which is around Rs 250 in normal days. K Narasamma, a fish vendor at Vizianagaram Rythu Bazaar, said “The availability of fish is drastically came down as the fishermen are venturing into the sea. So, the price hike would be there these days. Only the small fish like Gulivindalu, small crabs are available here”.
