Bhimavaram: The mechanical engineering students of SRKR Engineering College have developed an automobile vehicle which can be operated with a joystick instead of steering wheel.

With the latest technology available, the mechanical final year student, Ogirala Chaitanya Anirudh along with his friends developed the vehicle with wires, step-up motor, micro controller, transformer and joystick, which can be handled with single hand.

Anirudh said that physically challenged people can easily drive this vehicle. Driving will be easy through traffic congestion and even parking of the vehicle will be easy.

The experiment was done on the old Jeep in the mechanical lab. He said that he incurred a cost of Rs 30,000 to develop the steering wheel less automobile vehicle. The dashboard was modified so that the regular steering can also be used, he added.

College mechanical engineering HoD Dr K Brahma Raji, Prof K Suresh Babu congratulated the students for their innovative work.

Secretary and correspondent Sagi Vittal Ranga Rao, principal Dr G Pardhasarathi Varma and others were present.
