Vijayawada: The divider erected near Kotha Vantena bus stop on Eluru Road has been causing trouble for the people in general and senior citizens, women and school going children in particular.
Kotha Vantena bus stop is one of the busiest bus stops in Two Town with hundreds of people using the bus stop to reach RTC bus stand, railway station or one town.
Here, not only pedestrians, but also some of the devotees, visiting the nearby Hanuman temple, are also getting inconvenienced due to the hasty decision of the civic officials by blocking the way for thousands of people residing in Durga Agraharam and the surrounding areas by setting up a barricade on the road divider at the busiest junction. Left with no alternative both young and old are jumping over the divider risking their life as city buses, cars and other vehicles come speeding towards them at the city main junctions.
Vijayawada Municipal Corporation has totally failed to provide a solution to the problem which is being faced from many years by the pedestrians. Local resident 64-year-old Rama Devi said, “I have been coming to this bus stop form the past two years, I am facing trouble to cross the divider.” She also said that she is a daily wage worker and she travels in bus to reach her destination.
Another resident Padma, working in a mobile showroom, said that she is using the stop from the last four years to board city bus. “I have been using this stop for the last four years and we are facing a lot of trouble to cross the divider. Not only me, it’s the senior citizens that are facing a bigger problem to cross the divider, and the VMC have to give us some solution for this,”she said. Many people demand the municipal corporation to provide a passing space at the place.
The officials should inspect the road points before taking decision to block roads causing huge inconvenience to thousands of people especially common man. She said that the Dornakal road also should be opened for traffic towards Eluru road to reach Kotha Vantena as it directly connects both Eluru and Bandar roads.
The traffic has multiplied as the city emerged as State Capital, the officials should open several roads for free flow of traffic. Once the traffic is allowed from Eluru road to Dornakal road through Veedhiraju Meda, it would even help people including vehicle users.
