Pullalacheruvu (Prakasam Dist): The farmers in Palnadu area of Prakasam and Guntur districts has increased their demand for the completion of Varikapudisala (Dommarla Gondi) Lift Irrigation Scheme.
The Varikapudisala (Dommarla Gondi) Jalasadhana Samiti, a forum of farmers, journalists and social workers organised a meeting at Pullalacheruvu on Sunday and announced that they will take up militancy type movement to increase pressure on the government for the completion of the lift irrigation project.
Senior journalist Chevula Krishnanjaneyulu said that the Palnadu area was facing irrigation water problem for a long time and to address the plight of local farmers, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu laid foundation stone for the Varikapudisala LI Scheme on March 5, 1996. The scheme is expected to fill 40 tanks to provide drinking water.
