Porsche has launched the 718 Cayman at the 2016 Beijing Motor Show . The Cayman is like the 718 Boxster, but with a fixed roof and now comes with revised styling and new engines.

Perhaps the biggest change in this new Cayman is at its heart. Gone are the 2.7L and 3.4L boxer flat sixes and in their place are two entirely new 2.0L and 2.5L twin-turbo flat fours. Both engines put out 25bhp more than their predecessors with torque figures also being bumped up.

The base 718 Cayman will feature the 2.0L engine which is good for 300bhp, will do 0 – 100kmph in 4.7 seconds and max out at 274kmph. The Cayman S will get the more powerful 2.5L motor which puts out 350bhp and 419Nm of torque.

This one will reach 100 in 4.2 seconds and will go all the way till 285kmph. Gearboxes include a Porsche standard six-speed manual and a seven-speed PDK dual clutch automatic.

Stylistic updates to the exterior include new front and rear bumper, new taillights and revised side intakes. The Cayman, like with the 718 Boxster, will feature a single trapezoidal exhaust in the centre whereas the more powerful S version will get dual pipes. The Cayman and Boxster now look more alike than they have ever before.

For the interior, Porsche has revised the entire dash from the last-gen Cayman. There is a new 918-inspired steering wheel with a dial on it to toggle between driving modes. It also receives Porsche’s latest PCM infotainment system.

Porsche has also retuned the suspension, tightened the steering rack, widened the rear wheels, installed larger diameter anti-roll bars and enlarged the brakes. Porsche offers its Active Suspension Management system and the Sport Chrono pack as optional extras.

The Porsche Cayman was always one of the best driving sports cars around and now with all these mechanical changes wrapped in an updated and appealing body it makes an enticing prospect. The car will go on sale internationally later this year.
