Good news for all Volkswagen Polo fans out there. We all know that the Polo has an international NCAP 4 Star safety rating and is one of the safest cars in its segment in the country. In 2014, Volkswagen India made dual airbags standard across the range in Polo, however, the base variant of Polo, Baseline, missed out on ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System). To increase safety across its portfolio, the German automaker will now offer ABS as standard in the Baseline variant too, thus making it standard across the range.
There hasn't been any official statement from Volkswagen, however, the new brochure on the official website shows that ABS is now offered on the Baseline variant too. With this step, Volkswagen and Toyota are now the only mass car manufacturers to offer ABS and airbags as standard features on all their products in the country. This move came as the upcoming BNVSAP safety norms implemented by the Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways wants automakers to offer ABS and airbags as standard on all products from October 2018.
Anti-Lock Braking System checks unnecessary skidding in an emergency braking situation by preventing wheel lockup and maintaining a grip between the wheels and the road. People looking for safety while buying a new car should definitely opt for this feature.
The Volkswagen Polo, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, and the Toyota Etios Liva are the only cars in their segment to offer both ABS and dual airbags as standard. While the i20 misses out ABS in its base variants, the Honda Jazz offers ABS as standard only on its diesel variants. With increasing road accidents in the country, this kind of move from Volkswagen urges all other vehicle manufacturers to focus on safety.
