Chittoor: Minister for Mines and Geology Galla Aruna Kumari hoisted the tricolor at parade grounds here on Thursday on the occasion of Independence Day. On this occasion, she explained the development and welfare schemes being implemented by the State government and later distributed bank linkage scheme benefits to eligible women and senior citizens.

She also said that a sum of Rs 797.50 crore was distributed to farmers during Khariff season against the target of Rs 2,045 crore. Ten electrical sub-stations at a cost of Rs 10.45 crore were constructed in this financial year in the district, she said. A sum of Rs 105 crore was distributed to about 1.04 lakh card holders under MGNREGS against the target of Rs 330 crore this year, she said. The district topped in the State by distributing Rs 115 crore under Indira Kranthi Patham against the target of Rs 100 crore last year.

This year Rs 25 crore has been disbursed against the target of Rs 115 crore, she said. She said that the government had ordered the completion of the two-phased drinking water project, to supply Telugu Ganga water from Kandaleru reservoir to Chittoor district at a cost of Rs 7,390 from APIIC. Chittoor stood first in cultivating Mulberry crop in about 24,500 acres, she said. About 13 lakh liters of milk is collected every day in the district under dairy farming, she added.


Earlier, the minister garlanded the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi and paid floral tributes. She was impressed with the cultural programmes presented by school students. Later, she presented medals and appreciation certificates to officials and staff of 68 departments. Gangadharanellore MLA Dr G Kuthuhalamma, Puthalapattu MLA Dr Ravi Kumar, Collector Solomon Arokia Raj, SP Kranthi Rana Tata, joint collector Vinay Chand, district judge Ravi Babu, additional joint collector Venkata Subba Reddy and District Revenue Officer O Seshaiah and others were present.
