Recently, it was announced that the Jennifer Lopez-Jane Fonda starrer ‘Monster-in-Law’ will be adapted into a television series that will feature both the actresses reprising their respective roles. While the comedy is quite the entertainer, it will be interesting to see how it plays throughout the course of a TV series. Meanwhile, we make a list of other films that could be adapted into television shows...
THE HARRY POTTER SERIES
While JK Rowling captivated the imagination of children and adults with her ‘Harry Potter’ series, the films put visuals to the imagination. But some of the details in the book were represented differently in the films.
What we'd like to see on TV: It will be interesting to see the missing details from the books in a TV series.
TWILIGHT
This was initially a series of books authored by Stephenie Meyer that was made into films. However, while the first two films gripped the audience's attention, the last two parts failed to impress.
What we'd like to see on TV: A television series like the Vampire Diaries.
P.S. I LOVE YOU
This Gerard Butler-Hilary Swank starrer is a mushy love story between an American woman and her Irish husband. The story goes on long after the husband, played by Gerard, passes away as he leaves behind letters for his wife, Hilary, to help her get used to her new life without him.
What we'd like to see on TV: Each episode can revolve around a letter that Hillary's character gets.
THE MATRIX SERIES
This series is said to have numerous references to historical myths and philosophies, including Buddhism, Vedanta, Advaita Hinduism, Christianity, Messianism, Judaism, Gnosticism, existentialism and nihilism.
What we'd like to see on TV: As with the Ocean's movies, there are several characters with interesting back stories that can be expanded in a TV series, much like the Animatrix series gave fans of the film franchise a better idea about certain events that are mentioned only in passing in the film.
JULIE AND JULIA
The story revolves around two women who love to cook. It juxtaposes the contrasting life of chef Julia Child in the early years of her culinary career, with that of young New Yorker Julie Powell, who aspires to cook all 524 recipes in Julia's cookbook in 365 days.
What we'd like to see on TV: Each day of the year in which Julie cooks recipes from Julia's book can be encapsulated in an episode.
DIE HARD SERIES
Bruce Willis plays the role of John McClane, a New York City and Los Angeles police detective, and so far, the series comprises of five films over 26 years.
What we'd like to see on TV: A television series will do justice to the ageing cop who can perhaps go on to solve more cases than just the five he has done over more than two decades.
FIFTY FIRST DATES
Drew Barrymore plays the role of an amnesiac who lives the same day every day of her life. Her brother and father have to recreate the same things every day for her. Then, along comes Adam Sandler, who falls for Drew's character and she reciprocates, only to forget about it the next day.
What we'd like to see on TV: Each date that the onscreen couple goes on can be shown as an episode.
THE OCEAN'S SERIES
What we'd like to see on TV: The various characters can be developed in a TV show.
Each film has shown different cons being committed by Danny Ocean and his men — and, on occasion, women.
