Prudhvi Raj, who acted as the ‘Boiling Star’ in ‘Loukyam’, is all set to don a new avatar. Yes, he will shed the garb and be seen as a ‘Reckless Star’ in the forthcoming Gopichand-starrer ‘Soukyam’ that is bound to tickle the funny bone of the audience, all over again.

In fact, it is going to be a laughter bonanza for the audience going by the roles that have been lined up in his next three films.

The Vijayawada-born actor, who is more popularly remembered as ‘Thirty Years Industry’, after delivering the punch dialogue in Krishnavamsi’s ‘Khadgam’, will receive the Relangi Memorial Award instituted in memory of legendary comedian Relangi Venkatramaiah by the Comedy Club of Vijayawada on November 13.

On receiving it, he will join a select band comprising of his illustrious predecessors in the genre-Brahmanandam, Babu Mohan and Raghu Babu-the only three to be conferred with the coveted award for comedians.

Thanking the organisers in general and Rampilla Mohan Krishna, founder-secretary of the club, in particular, Prudhvi Raj says that he would remain indebted to the writers and directors, who ‘created a variety of roles in taking forward my career as an artiste’.

In the upcoming Ravi Teja-starrer ‘Bengal Tiger’, he will be the ‘Born Star’ who aspires to be a film hero and not follow in the footsteps of his politician-brother. He defies the sibling diktat given his avowed belief that an actor is any day more popular than a politician. In keeping with this ‘poles apart’ characterisation, the film has more than a bagful of punchy dialogues as the starry-eyed ‘hero’ takes satirical potshots at present day politics.

Meanwhile, Nikhil-starrer ‘Sankarabharanam’ is going to be another milestone in his career, says Prudhvi Raj, who plays a police officer to add another feather to his cap.

He says he is humbled by gestures from writers like Kona Venkat, Gopi Mohan and Sridhar Seepana, who ‘created pivotal characters that exemplified my versatility.’

However, one gets this overwhelming feeling that his full potential as a character actor is yet to be tapped by the industry. After all, one cannot simply categorise him as a comedian because he has been entertaining the audience with aplomb in myriad characters and to equal applause.

As veterans like Kota Srinivasa Rao and Rao Ramesh have opined, Prudhvi Raj will be the character artiste who could be depended upon in contemporary times and beyond.
