Boath: A youth, Goskula Nithin, of Pippiri village in Bajahathnur mandal of Adilabad district has been receiving huge acclaim for pursuing his passion numismatics of collecting currency and coins of 100 countries during the last 15 years. Not many may be lucky to see prominent currencies of the world like the Pound, Dollar, Euro and others. But Nithin, a employee in private shop, has them all.
Besides, he has been able to gather silver, brass and very old coins, as well as currencies from about 100 countries. As a boy he was inspired to have the rare collection after seeing a neighbour gather stamps as a hobby. Deeply moved by the sight of so many stamps of various countries, Nithin too nursed a similar deep desire.
Initially, he started gathering old and rare coins, but later started adding foreign currency, along with identical serial numbers of Indian rupee notes, by spending huge amounts in pursuit of his unending passion. “I don’t hesitate to spend any amount for securing these rare Indian rupee notes as soon as I receive information about the availability of such notes from any source,” he told The Hans India. Nithin told The Hans India that he was willing to buy any rare currency note or coin and part with any amount for procuring them.
He makes it a point to lay his hands on any new note introduced by the RBI before it released into the market like the new Rs 2,000 and Rs 500 in the district itself. The currency notes in his possession include those from the US, Pakistan, Malaysia, Italy, Singapore, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, the UK, Europe, Italy, Iraq, Uganda, Kenya, Egypt and many more.
Among his priceless possessions of thousands of coins is one dating back to 1,300 years - the oldest held by Nithin - and those belonging to the Queen Victoria era, the Moghuls as also the Nizam. Despite alluring offers to purchase his proud possessions, the genial shop employee is not willing to part with them. He amicably refused and from a person who tried to tempt him with Rs 30,000 in return for the old Indian note having rare number of all ones.
Nithin holds an exhibition of his rare collection once a fortnight, attracting attention of curious school students. He takes time to explain to the audience the value of currency notes, besides the coins, including their old names. He wishes to enter the Guinness Book of World Records and also collect both Indian and foreign gold coins.
